【明報專訊】Tristan: Did you go to the match on Saturday?
Hedda: No, I watched it on television. Wasn't it awful?
Tristan: Oh it was. We were one up at half time and then we go and lose two one. I don't know why I support Rovers. They've been terrible for the last two seasons.
Hedda: I know. It's not as if Northern United are a really strong team. They're below the middle of the table.
Tristan: But that result has put us within one point of the relegation zone.
Hedda: Yes. One more result like that and we'll go down for sure.
Tristan: I blame the manager. His tactics seem all wrong to me.
Hedda: Well, he didn't seem to have any on Saturday. There didn't seem to be any pattern to their play at all.
Tristan: I didn't see any pattern either. I think his days are numbered.
Hedda: I do too. In fact I've heard that the board have been looking for a replacement for some time now.
Someone's / Something's days are numbered 直譯是「某人/某事的日數已有限定」，換言之，其大限將至，不能活多久或繼續多久，例如：(1) His days as chief executive were numbered（他做總裁的日子無多了）。(2) The patient, who can no longer take care of himself, knows that his days are numbered（那病人再也不能照顧自己，心知活不久了）。
