【明報專訊】Euna: It was such a shame that Barbie Gaye had to pull out of commentating on the fashion show at the last minute yesterday.
Meg: Well, she hasn't been in the best of health lately.
Euna: But great that Imelda Ramirez was able to step up and take her place.
Meg: Yes, I thought she was brilliant, especially as she'd never done it before.
Euna: I know, but she took to it like a duck to water. She was so confident and competent.
Meg: She certainly was. I think she'll get a lot commentating jobs like that on the basis of her performance yesterday.
Euna: She certainly deserves to. It's quite difficult to do and she made it seem easy. She's a natural.
Take to something like a duck to water 直譯是「於某事就如鴨之於水」，那 water 有時會改為 the millpond （磨坊水池）。鴨子遇水，自然會游；以此喻人，就是說「遇上新的事物，能毫無困難處理」，例如：(1) He was an English literature graduate, but took to business like a duck to water（他是大學英文系畢業生，但從商卻是如魚得水）。(2) Although she had never been to Germany before, she took to the environment like a duck to water（她雖然以前未到過德國，但對當地環境十分適應）。
